Lean UX Canvas and Double Diamond Framework

An Agile workflow has been useful for the majority of my career however, it secludes members involved in a project and silos them…tethering on the Waterfall methodology. Lean UX was first introduced in 1988 by Toyota-GM engineer John Krafcik. It was later refined in the digital space by…well, everyone. The popularity of Lean UX in the IT space became popular when it was presented by Jeff Gothelf at several conferences. Designers have been working similarly by such methodology but nothing was really presented on paper or post-it notes. Jeff’s contribution helped bridge the gap between its first creation in 1988 to what the majority of successful IT companies use today.

The Lean UX Canvas and Double-Diamond framework can be extremely useful when facilitating UX workshops as it involves all of those who touch the product, to be held accountable for their contributions, ideas, solutions and their voice for the user. In the beginning of the production process, the Lean UX workshop helps mend teams and facilitates open conversations.

My Design Process

Since 2003, I have been refining my design process. Not all projects follow this exactly but it is a process that has worked for over a decade in both Japan and the United States. It wasn’t until a few years ago that I adopted the Lean UX Canvas and Double Diamond framework. There are striking similarities, right?
