In the last 6 months, I took on a new media challenge to see if I could move the user’s spirit. Not only am I trying to define emotion from the digital space, but also through sounds. Artificial Intelligence Machines can remember sounds using notes but not all users can remember or read notes. But they can hum a melody.  So how can these variables connect? Through music! So I began writing music using the latest and most popular sounds and synths.

I have also discovered that VSTs (Virtual Studio Technology, a software interface that integrates software audio synthesizer and effect plugins with audio editors and recording systems) mostly have horrible UI. Imagine if their UI was more minimal and useful… how much great music is missing? How many talented musicians gave up making music because of this?

So with these reasons above, I have began a journey into creating music. Have a listen to my songs below. I hope you like them!

MUSIC

This image shows the DAW and VST Plugins that I use when I design sound. A lot of different components, color pallets, sounds and UX. Quite confusing, isn’t it? But the output outweighs the experience.

AVENGER

This song took me several months to create as I wanted to articulate that unique and exciting feeling while combining several genres (EDM, Dub Melody, Dance and Electronica). Trying my best to not purchase any more VST or sounds, I utilized a lot of Omnisphere and Serum VSTs and played my Ableton Push 2 and Native Instruments keyboard.  Mostly intended for TV, movies, Vlogs and perhaps in a mix for dance music.

INSPIRE

Wanted to incorporate ambient, EDM, reggae and chill out genres into once concise song. It was a bit difficult but with a little inspiration, it came out quite beautifully! No loops were used. All sounds; melodies, beats, brass, etc was made from scratch except for a few voices.

Image was taken from Mount Rainier in Washington State – it was such a beautiful sight!

Iidamashii (良い魂)

It gets better at 2:30 as the baseline changes instruments and more haunting sounds…perhaps it remains inside of your brain and whistle it after listening to this.

All synths, melodies, beats were handmade using my own sound equipment.

(the child in the video is of my son Ian and was taken in Fall City, Washington)

Closer

This is my 3rd song. Mellow and complicated beats with a very powerful ending. The story behind this is..well, basically foreplay.  But a title as “foreplay” is so cliche so I changed it to “closer”. It’s supposed to go along where one person is trying to get closer to another person but doesn’t know how, until the end where the power of lovers come together and make…well, you know.

All synths, melodies, beats were handmade using my own sound equipment. Voices are loops. But everything else was originally design and arranged by me 🙂

Snowshine

This is my 1st song in an attempt to explore my creativeness on a new media.  I think it did quite well for an original. I prefer originality and a sound never heard. But it does have that Chill-step, Ambient and relaxing feel. I guess it’s working quite well!

Carol of the Bells

This is my 2nd song which I arranged and designed. Basically covered for Mykola Leontovych’s  “Carol of the Bells” using my own synths (no loops). I also added a melody at 1:40 into the song.  This was released right before the Christmas holiday of 2017 and felt in the Christmas spirit 🙂
