Microsoft Search Results Page

My task was to redesign Microsoft’s homepage search results page using Microsoft’s ‘smart search’ where when a user searches for a specific service or product, the search results would cater to the user. If user’s search query was “Xbox game”, then the first 10 search results would show Xbox games, then other categories. If user’s search query was “Window’s update”, then the search results would display Windows updates for the first 10 results and other categories afterwards.

This was a responsive site yet there was a challenge to replicate the category items to the left. By eliminating the category item menu when in a mobile view (both portrait and landscape) as research found that users felt more natural to swipe downward rather than tapping onto anchor links in a menu item.

This resulted in a better and customized results page for users providing them with all the information that they hoped for, on the very first search results page.
